Does droppin upload my Google Timeline or location data?

No. droppin processes your Timeline file entirely in your browser using a Web Worker. Nothing is uploaded, there's no account, and no analytics track your data. Only city-level results are ever shown — never your exact coordinates.

What file format does droppin need?

A Google Maps Timeline / location-history JSON export — usually named location-history.json or Timeline.json — produced by the Google Maps app's 'Export Timeline data' option.

Why doesn't my map show my home city or airport layovers?

That's intentional. droppin drops home and work locations (using Google's own labels) and excludes airport layovers, so the map reflects places you actually visited, not where you live or connect through.

Google quietly records the places you go in your Maps Timeline (location history). This guide shows how to export it and turn it into a world map of everywhere you've been — privately, in your browser, in about two minutes.

What is Google Maps Timeline?

Timeline (formerly "Location History") is the personal log Google Maps keeps of the places your phone has been — cities, landmarks, trips. It lives on your device and, if you've opted in, in your Google account. It's a rich record of your travels, but Google doesn't give you a simple "map of every country I've visited." That's the gap droppin fills.

Step 1 — Export your Timeline

Since 2024, Timeline lives on your device, so you export it from the phone app:

Open the Google Maps app on your phone.
Tap your profile photo → Your Timeline.
Tap the ⋯ (or settings) menu → Export Timeline data.
Save the file — it'll be a location-history.json (or Timeline.json).

💡 On some accounts you can also get location history via Google Takeout (choose "Location History / Timeline"). droppin reads the on-device export format.

Step 2 — Drop it into droppin

Open droppinmap.com and drag your location-history.json onto the drop zone (or tap to choose it). That's it — no sign-up, no upload.
